the postcard swap!

I love postcards. I use to be a very active member of postcrossing but I've kind of fallen off the bandwagon there. I think the idea of a picture and a short note is sometimes all you need. We all know what I do when I get down!  I for one am very thankful that Jennifer of Grits and Moxie decided to put together a postcard swap!

from the lovely jennifer
So I am belatedly showing off the lovely postcards I finally received from the May swap! (Not calling out the swappers, just the SHITTY postal service of otsego county) One of the things I really like about Jennifer's idea that each month has a theme! May was "where you live". I'm not the most intelligent person at times and I totally failed to take pictures of the postcards that I sent. I aiming to actually remember and take pictures in July.

from the mysterious jenny oh!
I'd link the lovely lady who sent me the postcard, but they didn't send their blog information on the postcard! Maybe next month! Stay tune for me to share the June swaps postcards (when I get them!) I will also make an attempt to remember to kick out a link for the July sign up!

I was left to my own devices. . . .

It's another Music Monday, here on shellasaurusrex and I have to admit I do like this feature so far. For a very, very long time music was the love of my life. I made mixtapes daily, had a song of the week and when I lost myself I lost interest. Slowly yet surely, 2013 has been my year of regrowth. So here is the song I've been feeling since I heard it a few weeks ago. (Crystal S. this is all your fault for posting it on your wall!)

"But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?"
Pompeii - Bastille

Now to some I could see this song being depressing and I just don't find that to be the case at all. I think the song is very, very upbeat and after listening to it once, I want to hear it again. We all know what happened to the city Pompeii, that the song takes it's title from. Unlike the city of Pompeii, I don't want to stay dormant, lost in ash forever. I want to go for a run, take a hike and plan, plan, plan. This song gives me hope, that even though it seems like nothing is changing, slowly and surely it is. Pompeii didn't stay hidden away for ever and neither will I.

What do you think of the song? What song is stuck in your brain this week? Tell me in the comments!

the force goes in my favor. . .

I'm a lucky girl! In the last month I've won not one but two, deep breathe, TWO giveaways from two of my favorite lady bloggers.

The first giveaway was from the super awesome Sarah of The lovely Sarah, is friends with Kelly Williams Brown, of Adulting fame (so jealous). Kelly just published her first book, Adulting, which claims to teach you how to be an adult in 438 easy(ish) steps. While I pretend that I am adult and I can believe it most days, I have to say that I was interested in reading the book, if only to look and see what I might be missing. Sarah to my surprise was giving away 3 copies of the book, and all you had to do was leave a comment with a tip to being a better adult. Now Sarah has such a huge readership I never thought that I would win, but I left my tip:

"my best tip for being an adult is that you need to learn that no one is going to tell you what to do, when to, or how to do it. You must learn that if you want things, you need to motivate yourself to get them, no one is going to be their cheerleading you on. "

Guess what? I WON A COPY! I am really excited to read this book (I am a fan of the blog) so check back for a review of the book. I've only got 3/4's left!

As for the second giveaway, this one really excites me (read on to find out why!)! The girl I wish I could steal as my best friend April, from April Maybe gave away a Peachy Apricot Downton Abbey Violet Keychain!

First when I saw that there were a zillion entries, I didn't think I would win. Then I won! Cue the excitement! Did I mention how excited I am!! Why am I so excited you might ask?

  1. I love Downton Abbey! How could you not love a period piece!? The accents! The costumes! Haven't seen it? Get to Netflix now!
  2. I AM GETTING A CAR! My first car in two years! I will be mobile once again!
I can't wait to add this lovely keychain to my ring! Maybe now I'll drive to April and steal her back to New York. Now that I've typed that I realize how creepy it sounds. I don't mean to be creepy, but April is pretty awesome!

I feel very lucky and these two lovely ladies brought much joy to my life this past month! Thank you so much Sarah and April!

After you I don’t know what I believe in

A friend of mine turned me on to this song "Atomic Man" by Portugal. The Man. I still haven't had a chance yet to delve deeper into the band's discography, but I keep finding myself playing this over and over.

"After you I don't know what I believe in
After you, hell should be easy
After you I don't know what I believe in

After you, hell will be easier"

Let's just go with the fact that I relate to this chorus so much it isn't funny. After what I went through in 2011, spending the last 2 years rebuilding, trying to find myself again, it hasn't been super easy nor fun. However having gone through it I know that I am strong and nothing really stops me now (except for myself.) I suppose that is why I like the chorus so much.

"Tides that take the sand
I’m atomic man, I'm the moon that pulls the tides that take the sand"

I think the video is pretty unique and while slightly creepy, still pretty cool. What do you think? Tell me in the comments!

Bad Wolf Day!

As a major Whovian, I am of course celebrating Bad Wolf day! Bad Wolf is one of my favorite plot lines in all of Doctor Who. I love the entire Who Universe, but Bad Wolf is my favorite. Don't believe me? Check out my wrist:

I'll be carrying chalk around around all day jotting Bad Wolf everywhere I go.

Remember: I am the bad wolf. i create myself. i take the words. . . . i scatter them, in time and space.
